This sculpture is of a woman wearing a dress that is flowing as if it were caught up in a breeze. Many people have told me how much they love the calm, peaceful expression of the woman’s face and the fact that she looks so poised and composed.
She has a very gentle, soft expression on her face. And even though she is completely bronze, the colors of her dress look so real. That’s what I love about bronze sculpture—there’s something almost magical in the way that artists can use it to create softness and movement. Look at the areas in her dress where it looks all bunched up, kind of like it was twisted by some unseen wind.
Take a look at how amazing the gown that the lady is portrayed wearing is! That dress looks so light and delicate while at the same time looks like it’s moving with her.
As you look more closely at it, you will realize that there is a flow and rhythm to it.
The statue, on top of being made out of bronze, also makes use of a lost wax method. This allows for it to have the bronze patina finish. As the statue matures, you will notice that the bronze develops a patina that changes its color.
